2009-2010      Kindergarten

ABOUT US:
Every day different activities happen in our Kindergarten classroom.  We meet together as a group  for science, social studies, literacy, math, story and morning meeting.  We also have math and literacy groups and individual work time.  In Kindergarten our specials are Spanish, Art, Library, PE, Health and Music.  Other special activities are All School Sing and Reading Partners with Grades 3.  We have a community volunteer that faithfully reads to the children each week; another community volunteer that the students read to; periodically parents come and read to the class or cook with the students.  We are dedicated to providing a positive, exciting learning environment in the classroom.

Learning Themes:

Each year in Kindergarten we do a variety of Thematic Units.  These themes vary in duration but most of them last about 5-7 weeks. I coordinate with Mrs Abarno in the library for supplementary materials and with Mr. Davis in Music.
Many of the Science and Social Studies units are done as All Primary Units with Grades PK-2.  During these units, in addition to our classroom work, we work together on some days. As a culminating activity to our unit we usually have a special primary morning.  During the morning students are placed in multi-age groups and they rotate to each of the primary teachers to do a variety of activities related to our theme.

This year our Science themes are:  Butterflies/Insects, Bats, Simple Machines, Community Helpers, Trees, Bears, Maple Sugaring, Amphibians/Reptiles and the Senses.
