1/22/10
Dear Pre-K Families,
I wanted to send you a few additions to our
calendar for the month.
·
On Monday 1/25 we will be practicing
an all school indoor “natural disaster drill”.
I will be going through it today with the class so that they are
prepared for what to expect. Basically,
in the event of a type of emergency where we cannot safely leave the school, we
will gather together in a secure location which is in the main hall cubby area. Please let me know if you would like any
additional information.
·
On Wednesday 1/27 we will be having
our winter concert at 6:30 pm in the gym.
If you would like to participate, please have your child in our
classroom at 6:15 and then you can find seats while I watch the children until
show time. I will be at an all day work
shop on Wednesday but I will be there for the concert.
I also wanted to keep you up to date on a few
additions to our regular daily curriculum:
·
We spent the last two days reading a
children’s book about Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and work. The children had some very poignant questions
and comments. I was proud of them. Today we will read the story “The Other Side”
by Jacqueline Woodson which is a story about two young girls who become friends
despite racial divides.
·
We have also been continuing to
explore life cycle topics. They will be
planting and observing a narcissus bulb grow for health class. We have already been watching and waiting for
a cutting of ivy to sprout roots. The
class has also been playing a choice time game about animal babies (egg layers
vs. live young) and we are beginning to explore the question “how do you know
if something is alive?”.
Have a great weekend!
Carrie Dix
