Dear Pre-K Families,                                                                                   11/4/09

Next Wednesday, the 11th of November, we are scheduled to have conferences.  I’m sending home a form (also attached here on the website) so you can pick three choices of times that would be best for you.  If your first choice won’t work, I’m hoping at least to get you your second or third choice.  If Wednesday is not good for you or if you are going to be away, please let me know what days or times would be better and we can schedule something on a different day.  Please return the form with your choices by Monday the 9th.  I will sort out the appointment times and let you know when you are scheduled by Tuesday at the latest.  At conferences I like to discuss how things are going for your child at school from my perspective and yours at home.  We can look at some of the work and data I have been collecting and discuss some goals for the rest of the year.

On a side note, I have decided to make a change to how I do sharing.  In years past I have started out the year with “star student projects”.  Each child will make a poster about them and their family and share it with the class.  I decided to save these for January when we are stuck inside and have more time.  In the mean time, we have already started sharing time informally.  It is a good pre-writing activity and we focus on who, what, where, when & why details about the object.  They also do questions and comments.  The class has been doing very well both sharing, listening and respecting their class mate’s belongings.  This is how it works; if a child brings something in to share, it gets put on my shelf.  Two children a day can share- first come, first serve.  If there are more than two that wish to share, those children will do so the next day and so on.  If your child is asking to bring something to share, it is fine- we are doing sharing time.  Meaningful items or photos are most interesting but I understand that toys are often what they tend to want to bring.  Nothing really big or loud, please!

Best regards,
