LUNCH
MENU/ENVELOPES
Please
be prompt in returning your child’s/children’s lunch envelope. It’s difficult to “estimate” the number of
breakfasts/lunches.We are trying not to
waste food, but unfortunately, when envelopes are not in and we estimate
numbers, meals have been wasted.Also,
if your child signs up for lunch and/or breakfast, it is important that they actually
take it.We have prepared
breakfasts/lunches for students signed up, and at times, they do not take
it.Jim prepares each tray – some days,
many lunches are discarded! What a shame
to waste the food – and that adds to our daily cost as well.Go over the lunch menu with your
child/children and have them sign up for only the ones they wish to have.
IMMUNIZATIONS
If
your child has had any immunizations during the school year, please let us know
so we may mark their health records. Also remember, if you have a child going into kindergarten or 7th
grade, check with their doctor to see if they are “up to date”.

Softball team is looking for a couple more players and Stephanie may be signing
up with them.
REMINDERS:
·Lunch envelopes due back by Wednesday, April 15th
·Spring break is April 20 – 24
·Spring pictures are Thursday, April 16th
·Talent Show – April 16th at 8:30a.m.
and 6:30p.m.
The menu and pre-pay lunch envelope are
attached to this newsletter.Please send
the envelope back to school with payment by Wednesday, April 1, 2009.This last envelope was very late from many
parents.This creates a shortage of
breakfast/lunches prepared.PLEASE SEND THEM BACK BY THE DEADLINE.
We
also are asking parents of children who qualify for free lunch toplease
complete the envelopesand send them back to school so we have an
accurate count at meal time.Today at
lunch, there were 6 meals that went to waste. We did the lunch count this morning and also counted some students who
qualify for free lunch who do not have their envelopes in, so actually are not
signed up.They have been having lunch
some days this week, so we have been “guessing” when we think they may eat.We did not want to be “short” lunches, which
has happened in the past.Unfortunately,
today they did not take the lunch.Because our lunch/breakfast program is supposed to be “self sufficient”,
we cannot afford to have waste.Restaurants
make lunches up as they are ordered.Schools make the amount of food up according to the count given the
kitchen in the morning. We must INSIST
these envelopes come in.We cannot
automatically say no to the students who are not signed up and do not come to
school without a lunch.All students
should have something for lunch in order to handle their academics in the
afternoon.PLEASE, be certain to complete
and send the envelopes in.

wording/pictures are not allowed.We

MENU/ENVELOPE
ATTACHED
It
is hard to believe this menu attached is for weeks in December! Time certainly flies by!!Please return the envelope with payment by Tuesday,
November 25th.It is important to get
them in on time – our count for the breakfast and lunch program has been way
off lately due to envelopes not in on time, and students getting lunch without
being signed up.At times, more lunches
have to be made during lunch time, which delays serving.Students might not receive what is on the
menu in such cases due to not preparing correct amounts.
We must also
inform you that since breakfast is only .75 cents –students have a choice of items, but
cannot have every item on the menu. They
always receive 1 serving of juice, and have a choice of cereal or
the hot item.Fruit, cheese and crackers
are always available.
Just a
reminder as well, that if your child does not like the main item at lunch, they
may sign up for peanut butter and jelly, just peanut butter, or just
jelly.Just place a “PBJ”, “P”, or “J”
in the box on the envelope on the day they prefer this type of sandwich. These sandwiches need to be ordered ahead of
time so they are ready and waiting for the student! If students are down for the regular lunch,
this is what will be served to them.Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.
HEAD LICE
UP-DATE
Just
a reminder - please continue to check your child’s head on a regular
basis. Also, please notify the school if
you find “anything” – so we may keep on top of any issues here at school as
well.
DRESS WARMLY
There
is outside recess even on these cold and blustery days, so please be certain your
children have proper outside clothing.Be certain to mark your child’s initials or name on inside tags of their
clothing (coats, boots, mittens, hats, etc.) so if something wanders off we can
get it back to the owner. Some students
look very under dressed!
SENIOR MEALS
If
you know of any seniors who would like to come to school for senior meals, we
are planning the first one on Thursday, Dec. 11th at 11:45a.m.The cost is $4.00, and they will be seated in
the school library. They should call the
school prior to that date to sign up.The menu will be the same as the students for Dec. 11th.
Other dates
will be set if we have the interest.Pass the word on!
PLANNING
AHEAD
Once
again, we will hold our annual Holiday Feast in December. For our new families – this is a day when we
have all food donated and everyone has lunch free of charge. Our menu is turkey, stuffing, potatoes,
gravy, green beans, squash, cranberry relish, a variety of breads, a dessert
table, coffee, tea, water and milk.We
plan to hold this event on Friday, Dec. 19th this year.So if you are buying a turkey on sale now and
would like to donate one for that day – let Helen Brown know.We need 5 twenty pound turkey’s total, along
with lots of other items.A list is
attached to today’s newsletter for items needed. If you are willing to stuff and roast your
turkey for us, that would be great as well, or if you prefer not to prepare it,
we will find someone who could! If you
can purchase and donate any item on the list, please call the school at
464-5386 and we will mark that down. It’s always a fun time with lots of family,
friends and community members joining us.Mark your calendar so you can join us as well!
BOOK SALE
New books at half price!Nov. 28 and 29 from 9 – 6, and Nov. 30 from
12 – 5 at Latchis 4, Brattleboro.This
will benefit Windham County Reads!
Attached to
this newsletter is a sketch of our parking lot showing where you should park
your car and where you should stop to drop off students. The Drop
Off Zone is only for you to use if you are letting a child/children out of
your vehicle and continuing on your way.The Parking Area
is where you should park if you plan to come into the building, get out of your
car, or pick children up after school.
We had a
close call with a student – cars were parked in the drop off zone, creating
blind spots. We insist on keeping our
children safe, so are asking for your complete cooperation in following the
rules. These rules are to be followed
throughout the entire school day – not just early in the morning and dismissal
time.
We thought we
would put this explanation and sketch in this week’s newsletter especially for our
new families who may not know the complete rules, and as a reminder to our
families who have been with us previous years.
Again, thank
you for your understanding and cooperation.

GRACE
COTTAGE HOSPITAL TO OFFER WEIGHT WATCHERS FAMILY PROGRAM IN SEPTEMBER
Grace Cottage
Hospital is fortunate to have been chosen as the first location in the
Northeast to offer the Weight Watchers Family Program to the community.Based on a four-year pilot, this program has
proven successful in helping families create a healthy-weight home. The emphasis is on healthy eating and an
active lifestyle, rather than on “dieting.”Statistics show that children learn their eating and activity habits
early in life, so it makes sense for families to approach this issue
together.Grace Cottage has received a
grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield to cover part of the cost for families to
enroll in this new ten-week program, which will be offered starting this fall.To find our more, call 365-3649.

DRESS FOR SCHOOL
As
warmer weather approaches, there is a need to send a reminder home about
appropriate and acceptable school dress as it pertains to our school
procedures.This procedure applies to
the entire school preschool to grade six.It states that spaghetti strap tops or halter tops are NOT allowed in
school.Bellies must be covered.Shorts must cover the entire bottom, and do
so even when the child bends over or sits down.Remember that your children need to wear clothing that allows them to
move about and be comfortable for the day.If they are pulling at shorts or fixing straps, it becomes a distraction
for learning or playing.Shoes that
children can play and run in comfortably are recommended and they must have
sneakers for PE day.Although flip-flops
and sandals are cool for the feet, they are not practical and do not provide
enough support for active movement and playground use.
PLEASE HELP BUILD OUR ROCK WALL
Thanks
to the Dover parents, teachers and administration, we now have enough money to
start building a rock wall.During last
year’s field day, we had a portable rock wall brought in and the students loved
it.Now the students can’t wait until we
have our new permanent rock wall installed.Grade 5/6 is ready and willing to help in whatever way they can, but
need help from parent and community volunteers to help get their feet off the
ground.
We would like to see the wall installed
before the first of June so the sixth graders may enjoy it before they graduate. They will set up work dates once materials
and volunteers have been gathered. Please contact Mrs. Neuman’s class if you are willing to assist with
this exciting new project! Here is a
